The Magic of Little Houses
This drawing was created more than twenty-five years ago, when I was living with my parents on Via Ercolano Marini, in the home of my dear Uncle Barone.
The inspiration came from a phrase written on a ceramic tile at the entrance of the house:
Parva domus, magna quies
Small house, great peace.
Just a few words, yet they perfectly capture the true soul of Amalfi.
The houses of Amalfi are often small, tucked away among ancient alleyways, staircases, and arches. Yet once you step inside, a world of silence, serenity, and peace opens before you. A precious sense of calm, far from noise and haste, that has always been part of life in our town.
With this drawing, I wanted to capture that feeling: the magic of Amalfi expressed through memories, colors, symbols, and emotions that have accompanied me throughout my childhood and my life.
Every house, every shape, and every detail tells a piece of our story. The colorful domes, the Cathedral, the sea, the boats, the winding alleys, and the hidden corners nestled among the mountains all become symbols of a place unlike any other in the world.
This artwork is a tribute to my family, to the memories of those years, and to the privilege of living in an extraordinary land, where beauty is found not only in the landscape, but also in the ability to discover peace and harmony in the simplest things.
This is my Amalfi.
