Parva Domus Amalfitana… magna quies

My Amalfi, through memory and colour

This design was created more than twenty-five years ago from a phrase inscribed on a small tile outside the home of Uncle Barone and Aunt Rosa, in Via Ercolano Marini, Amalfi:

Parva domus, magna quies.
A small house, great peace.

Those few words stayed with me, and I tried to turn them into images.

I did not want to portray Amalfi as it is, but my Amalfi: the Amalfi of memories, colours and symbols that have accompanied my life. The Cathedral, the houses climbing the hillside, the stairways, the sea, the boats and the winged horse come together without obeying perspective or proportion, just as they do in memory.

Amalfi is colour, voices and movement, yet it also preserves a more intimate soul, made of small houses, narrow lanes and silence.

Outside, the world. Inside, peace.

Today I have added just one word to that phrase: Amalfitana.

Parva Domus Amalfitana… magna quies.

Because over time that little house became something more: a feeling of belonging.

And today this memory finds new life in Amalfi Coast Club.

Before becoming a print, it is a piece of my story. My Amalfi.
